Mid-Century Modern & More – Southwestern DC Private Guided Walking Tour

Join us for a guided tour of Southwest DC’s Mid-Century Modern architecture!

One of the first neighborhoods to be developed, in the District, the Southwest area of DC became a thriving community for Black Washingtonians. During the 1950s, the original neighborhoods were demolished and replaced by new buildings characteristic of the trends of the time. Today, it’s known for some of the finest examples of mid-century modern architecture in Washington.

Some highlights of the two-hour tour:

– See the work of Cloethial Woodard Smith, the most important woman architect in DC history
– See famed local architect Charles Goodman’s modernist aluminum masterpieces
– The place where famed doctor Walter Reed discovered the proved the causes of yellow fever
– A monument to men who died on the Titanic
– The buildings that earned global superstar architect I.M. Pei his first awards
– The most important regional theater in the United States
– Learn how the wealthiest man in America was bankrupted by his DC investments
– And so much more

Our tour will start at “Wheat Row,”1315 4th St SW, Washington, DC 20024, and ends at the Southwest Duck Pond Park. Both are just a few blocks from the Waterfront stop on the Green line. Parking is available at garages at the Wharf.

We’ll finish up at 12:00pm and head to Bartaco restaurant, for an optional group lunch. Food and beverage choices will be on your own tab. PLEASE indicate that you are planning to attend the lunch afterward, so that we can make the appropriate size reservation!
