Ball’s Bluff Battlefield Expert’s Guided Tour of the Harvard Regiment

Sunday, October 18, 2026
1:00PM - 2:30PM EST

Our club’s annual walking tour at Ball’s Bluff Battlefield resumes on Sunday, October 18. You have seen the names in the entry of Memorial Hall and at Soldiers Field. Walk where the 20th Massachusetts, “the Harvard Regiment,” fought its first battle in 1861 and where Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. was first wounded.

Meet us at 1 PM in Leesburg VA at the circle at the entrance of Ball’s Bluff Regional Battlefield (nearest address 515 Jenifer Ct NE, Leesburg VA). If you get to the gravel road, you have gone past our meeting spot.
The one-mile or so walk will be on wood-chip paths, some with tree roots, one long slope; two and one-half hours. NOVA Parks does not have a visitor center but has a porta-potty onsite.
Bill Wilkin is a retired history teacher, former Army officer and diplomat who has led this specially-designed walk for our club for twenty years.  Guests of club members (high school and older) are welcome.
