President's Message

Welcome to the Harvard Club of Washington, DC (HCW)!  Our purpose is to inform and enrich the lives of the more than 20,000 Harvard University alumni in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. We have been engaging members of the Harvard and Radcliffe College communities, as well as Harvard graduate schools, for over 140 years. We are a vital group with members ranging from current Harvard students and recent graduates who just moved down from Cambridge to members who have been around the block in the nation’s capital a time or two. We are home to both summer interns and alumni who graduated more than seventy years ago. Won’t you join us?

The HCW provides numerous opportunities to connect, learn, explore, and volunteer. Our event calendar is filled with social, networking, educational, family-friendly, sporting, cultural, and community service opportunities. We welcome Club members’ input into new and different events by contacting us at events@harvard-dc.org. The Club offers many ways to volunteer and give back to Harvard and the community writ large.

We have one of the largest Schools & Scholarships Committees in the country, encouraging Harvard and Radcliffe College alumni to interview aspiring high school seniors. We act as ambassadors for Harvard to local college fairs and school visits. We sponsor the Harvard Prize Book Program for over 60 schools in the DC/MD/VA area, and award Harvard Prize Books to exceptional high school juniors. In addition, with the help of donations, we offer Summer Community Service Fellowships and award scholarships to talented students in our area. We also organize various community service events. Past events have included preparing and serving at food banks, helping in community gardens, organizing Habitat-for-Humanity days, and volunteering at non-profit charity races.

We couldn’t do this without the support of our members and donors. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Harvard Club receives no financial assistance from Harvard University and is dependent on membership dues, event revenue, and donations to fund our operations and charitable work. We are here to strengthen ties with Harvard, with each other, and with future and current students. Please help us build an even stronger community in the Washington, DC area.

Interested in joining the Board?

Every spring, the Harvard Club of Washington, DC solicits applications and nominations to join the Board via the newsletter.  At the Annual Meeting in June, Members vote on Officers and Directors, and the new Board is announced. If you wish to get involved in the meantime, we welcome volunteers throughout the year through community service and Schools Committee, including high school outreach and the Harvard Prize Book planning. Drop us a note to President@harvard-dc.org if you’d like to get involved!
